Deepak (Mumbai, India) asked : What function you prefer to be assigned for function button of your camera?
To be honest with you, this question forced me to go back and see what are other options available to assign for the function button. The reason is that most of the time I assign two of my favorite options and never looked back for other options. I will tell you which are that functions and why I assign that function as a function button option.
If you have never used function button or heard about it but don’t know how to use it and why should you use it, let me clear that first with brief discussion. Function button will allow you to change your camera setting (specific one whichever you choose) without going deep down to the menu options. Once you assign function button to the specific feature and whenever you press function button, your camera will adjust that setting for particular shot. This comes very handy when you want to alter your camera settings on the fly. Here is how you change your function button option.
Step 1 : Press the MENU button.
Step 2 : Go the Custom Settings Menu (pencil icon) and navigate down to f (controls).
Step 3 : Select f3 (Assign FUNC. button).
You have bunch of options available there such as spot metering, +RAW, matrix metering, center-weighted metering, flash off, framing grid, AF-area mode etc. Personally my favorites are spot metering and +RAW mode. Why? Because I set my metering mode to matrix metering by default and sometime if I want to give center subject credit for metering, I want to use spot metering. And same theory is true about choosing +RAW mode. I shoot with JPEG Fine mode most of the time unless it is critically challenged condition with lights and contrast. If so, I will press function button and shoot with JPEG Fine+RAW mode so that I can go to my computer and tweak settings with RAW (NEF) images. Most of the time, I play with white balance and contrast settings when I want to edit RAW images.
